History of the Troops
On September 1, 2024, our two Troops, T16B (boys) and T16G (girls), entered the Scouts BSA Combined Troop pilot program. Previously operating as two units under a single committee and charter organization, the two units operate as a single unit, Troop 16 (combined or co-ed). We are the only combined unit in the Suwannee River Area Council (SRAC).
Troop 16 was founded in January 1993 in Tallahassee, Florida. We held our first meeting in March 1993 at Deerlake United Methodist Church, our original charter organization. We still meet at Deer Lake Church, located at 8013 Deer Lake Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312.
In February 2019, we welcomed the girls to the scouting program, and Troop 16G was founded as one of the first two girl Troops in Tallahassee.
The Mac Crutchfield Foundation became our charter organization effective January 2023.
The Mac Crutchfield Foundation was set up to honor the life and passion of Mac Crutchfield. Mac tragically passed while playing in a downpour near his home in Georgia. Mac was a dedicated and accomplished swimmer on the Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club team and an active Scout with Troop 16.
